In the story, I found the lawyer may be the one who unconsciously killed Bartleby. Although he seemed to be benevolent to Bartleby, but in fact he tried to set him up violently. It's just a duplicity for what the lawyer did to Bartleby. In the outside he hope that Bartleby can have a new job and start a new life, but what really in his mind is letting him out of his eyes and cutting off the relation between himself and Bartleby.
Moreover, I think Bartleby represents the minority of the society, and the lawyer represents the majority. The small voices always be neglected; people only accept the same thinking, so they will put their value, and their view on the minor groups. However, they always be involuntarily receive those "support" or in other hand, just pressure. People never be able to pretend "if I were in your shoes", because you can never be others. How can you decide for them? Like the lawyer and the Bartleby, you might kill someone unconsciously.
It is a story of two killers who want to murder a retired boxer. In my opinion, the story show the cold and dark side of the human beings and the unreasonable phenomenon in the society. How can one neglect the vanish of a life? How can one give up the chance to live so easily? How everyone face his/her own existence on the earth may be verified, but you just can't be so aimless like the two killers. They don't know why to kill and they could not even decide what they want to eat. Maybe we should be optimistic to the world and try hard to find a reason that you and persuade yourself to rely on it.
